Ruth Vitale

Ruth Vitale has been at the forefront of independent film production and distribution for almost twenty years. She was President of First Look Pictures, where she oversaw the releases of The Proposition, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters and Paris, Je T’aime. In 1998, Vitale founded Paramount Classics, where she served as Co-President until 2005. Classics releases included Sunshine, You Can Count On Me, The Virgin Suicides, Girl on a Bridge, Mad Hot Ballroom, and Hustle & Flow.
Prior to her appointment at Classics, Vitale was President of Fine Line Features. Under her aegis, Fine Line released the Academy Award-winning Shine; The Sweet Hereafter; Love! Valour! Compassion!; Twelfth Night; Gummo and The Winter Guest. She was Senior Vice President of Production for United Artists, where she oversaw production on Child’s Play, I’m Gonna Get You Sucka, and Roadhouse. As President of Production for Vestron Pictures, she broke independent ground with the highest-grossing independent film of the time, Dirty Dancing. She was also Director of Acquisitions for The Movie Channel.
Vitale received her Bachelor’s Degree in Literature from Tufts University and her Master’s Degree in Journalism from Boston University.
